You’ve spent a weekend parked up at Wairarapa wine country or a freedom camp on the Coromandel coast. The wind’s up, the sun’s going down, and dinner’s a sad protein bar — because the bulky camp stove you packed three months ago is still sitting in the garage.
Sound familiar? Most portable stoves sold in New Zealand are either too big to justify packing, too flimsy to trust in a serious cook, or designed for markets that don’t deal with our kind of weather. There’s a gap in the kit — and the BlackMOA™ Qube was built to close it.
The Problem with Most Portable Stoves
NZ van lifers, campers, and mobile builders face the same three frustrations when it comes to portable cooking:
• Bulk and weight: Most camp stoves are too heavy or awkward to store in a tight van build or ute tray. You end up leaving them behind.
• Unreliable ignition: Budget stoves that require a lighter — or worse, fail in the cold — are frustrating and, in poor conditions, a safety risk.
• Underpowered output: Low-wattage burners that take forever to boil water aren’t practical when you’re cooking for a crew after a long day on the road.
These aren’t minor inconveniences — they’re the difference between a good trip and a miserable one.
Meet the BlackMOA™ Qube
The Qube is a compact piezoelectric ignition gas stove built for people who actually use their gear. It’s lightweight, powerful, and designed to sit neatly in the space you have — not the space you wish you had.
Sourced through Myst Enterprise’s direct manufacturing network and quality-checked to GB/T38522-2020 standard, the Qube is the kind of kit that belongs in every serious NZ van build, overland rig, or day pack.
What You Get
• 2300W burning power — enough heat to cook a proper meal fast, not just boil water slowly.
• Piezoelectric ignition — one-click start, no lighter required. Reliable in cold and damp conditions.
• 1.4kg total weight — light enough to pack without a second thought.
• Compact dimensions: 28 x 21 x 8.5cm — fits in a daypack, a van drawer, or a toolbox.
• Compatible with BDP-250-A small butane cylinders (>95% butane) — widely available across NZ.
• Rated gas consumption of 168g/h — efficient burn that stretches your cylinder further.
• Secure latch mechanism — the cylinder clicks in with two audible ‘ka-ka’ sounds so you know it’s seated correctly before ignition.
• Implemented to GB/T38522-2020 standard — manufactured to a recognised safety specification.
Qube | Portable Stove
Lightweight. Powerful. Ready when the road is.
Easy to Set Up
Getting the Portable Gas Stove - Qube going takes about 20 seconds:
• Determine the position and angle of the internal latch.
• Align the butane cylinder with the notch facing upward.
• Insert the cylinder into the latch position until you hear two clicks.
• Rotate the switch counterclockwise and pause.
• A ‘ka-da’ sound followed by a normal blue flame means you’re cooking.
The flame should burn light blue with a clear inner flame, about 60mm high. If you’re seeing red flame or weak output, the manual covers common fixes — usually a blocked nozzle or low gas cylinder.
A Note on Safe Use
Like any gas appliance, the Qube needs to be used correctly. A few things to keep in mind:
• Always use small gas cylinders as specified — do not refill.
• Do not use near other heat sources or in strong wind conditions.
• Check for any gas smell before igniting — if you smell gas, do not proceed.
• Store the cylinder separately from the stove when not in use.
The Qube is built for people who take their gear seriously. Treat it right and it’ll look after you.
Who Can Use It
The Qube suits a wide range of NZ buyers:
• Van lifers and campervan builders who need a reliable backup or secondary burner.
• Hunters and trampers who want real cooking power without the weight penalty.
• Tradespeople who spend long days on-site and want a hot meal without fuss.
• Anyone who’s tired of budget stoves that let them down.
